With the release of Scia Engineer 2011, a webinar was given about the new Table Editor to the IQ-members. The participants got the opportunity to do some betatesting. All feedback was collected and we decided to extend the table with the top 3 of your demands.

- Are you a BIM modelling professional who needs wide interoperability capabilities?
- Do you call for advanced tools for an easy and automated preparation of drawings?
- Are you a specialist who designs civil engineering structures without going into the calculation and code-design phase?
- Do you long for functions that make it possible for a whole team to work simultaneously on the same model?
If you answered “yes” to at least one of the questions, then Scia Engineer Structural Edition is the right choice for you.

Scia Engineer Structural Edition saves you over 60% when compared with the price of a standard Scia Engineer Edition containing the BIM and drawings functionality.

A seminar introducing Scia Engineer was held at our Saudi partner, Maak’s, facilities last October.
The seminar focused on how Scia Engineer enables engineers to save time, money and go beyond analysis and design of structures and really explore the structure. The seminar was well received with attendees from well known companies such as Al Shahin, IBSF and STC.

As more and more governments, owners, architect, and contractors are requiring BIM (Building Information Modeling), engineers are increasingly being asked to participate in collaborative, model-based workflows. But, plugging into these new processes can be difficult with traditional structural design software.
In a recent article in Structure Magazine, Dan Monaghan, Nemetschek Scia, explores how three consulting engineering firms are leveraging Scia Engineer to:
- Make advanced non-linear analysis and multi-material design not only feasible, but cost effective.
- Work iteratively with others on the design team, and share models with fabricators and contractors.
- Reduce cost and calculation errors by integrating modeling and multi-material design.
- Reduce RFIs (request for information) by allowing designers to work out constructability issues before they reach the job site

The Precast Concrete Institute’s BIM Committee, along with software developers Nemetschek Vectorworks, Nemetschek Scia, StructureWorks, and Tekla, presented a new integrated model based workflow for the precast industry this week that promises to streamline the design and production of precast structures. The effort was coordinated by Chuck Eastman, Professor and Director of the Georgia Tech Digital Building Laboratory, and Rafael Sacks at the Technion, and their teams.

The presentation, which took place at the 2011 PCI Annual Convention and National Bridge Conference, illustrates the benefit of openBIM and how the IFC file exchange is allowing architects, engineers, and precast manufactures to leverage today’s BIM process to increase efficiencies, reduce errors and ultimately deliver higher performing precast structures.
“The demo is just an initial stepping stone to deal with all the major exchanges facilitating precast workflows,” said Eastman. “We expect other companies aspiring to support precast work will be joining later.”
